Drain flies  are small insects that is that feed on organic matter. They are often called sewage flies. This is due to drain flies association with sewage beds.

  • Grey

  • Wings covered with hair

 

6. Horseflies

Horseflies are a real nuisance to animals. A female horsefly loves biting animal, so much that some animals may lose weight as a result of the bites! Male horseflies are more innocent and don't cause annoying bites.

Horsefly characteristics:

  • Up to 25mm

  • Dark brown or black with black or green eyes

  • Painful bites

 

7. Phorid flies

Phorid flies are less common in Singapore. They spend their time roaming through onions, potatoes, and other tubers.

Phorid fly characteristics:

  • 3mm

  • Light brown or yellow

  • They can survive for 1-2 months

 

8. Small dung flies

Small dung flies love damp substances and rotten organic matter. They lay their eggs in those places, too.

Small Dung Fly characteristics:

  • Up to 5mm

  • Dark brown

  • Only flies short distances
